Parents outraged after Norwegian zoo beheads healthy zebra and feeds it to tigers

Norway's most visited attraction, Kristiansand Dyrepark sparked outrage among parents after beheading a healthy zebra and feeding it to the tigers in full view of visitors.

Officials say the zebra had to go because there were too many of them at the zoo.
Parents who were met with the scene as they took their children to the zoo labelled it 'traumatic'.

One protestor online said: 'A little too macabre for me. Animals eat animals, but I did not think I would see that at the zoo.'

The zoo's vet, Rolf-Arne Olberg said: 'I think most people realise that a tiger eats meat.

'There is no point hiding it away.'

He added: 'I understand people's reactions, but it is quite normal for a tiger or lion to eat their prey.

'With a whole animal to eat, they must spend some time tearing it apart with their claws and teeth. It stimulates natural behaviour.

'We explained this and the guests realise that this is the way nature is. We must not avoid the fact that predators eat other animals.'

Have you got what it takes to ascend this 650ft high mountain on stairs?

It's certainly not one for the fainthearted, ascend a 650ft mountain on a flight of 650 stairs. Having a head for heights just won't do, if the height doesn't put you off, sheer exhaustion will.

The stairs have been wedged into a huge crevice in the 10-million-ton El PeƱon de Guatape rock in Colombia.

Don't let the height or effort put you off, the views from the top are said to be worth the effort.

Leicester City three points away from Title after Tottenham drop points

Leicester City WILL win the premier league, we know they are not serial chokers like Arsenal, they won't blow it at the final hurdle.
Following Tottenham's 1-1 draw with West Brom last night, the club writing football's most enchanting fairytale can lift the title if they beat Manchester United on Sunday. This is a subplot only football can serve up, how fitting that it's going down at the Theatre Of Dreams.

Let's put this in perspective.
This club gained promotion to the topflight only two years ago, they escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth last season, securing their top flight status on the very last day of the season, they were bookies favorites for relegation at the start of the season, they have NEVER won the Premier League, they have NEVER qualified for the Champions League. Yet here they stand, on the threshold of immortal glory.
I. Believe. In. Miracles.

When you can't take no more

The Fulani rampage and Mr President's silence

It's all beginning to make sense now. When Mr president said it, it's full meaning and import didn't hit home then, the public sense was still numb from the euphoric excitement of the messiah's emergence, but it's all coming together now and the picture it paints is too terrible to contemplate.

When the president declared in America of all places that he'll concentrate on the areas which bagged him the most votes in the election, he wasn't just spit balling, recent events have shown that he meant it.
How else can one describe his deafening silence in the face of continued attack on the innocent and defenceless by rampaging herdsmen? Nigerians on social media are even beginning to refer to the heartless murderer as 'Buhari's brothers'.
The prevailing perception is that the Fulani are being compensated for their unrelenting support while the victims are the Peters who have to be robbed if Paul is to be given his due.
It is no secret the electorate vote along tribal and religious lines in this country so your guess is as good as mine when it comes to which region, tribe and religion PMB got the most votes from.

The silence of Nigeria's number one citizen and commander-in-chief in the face of one of the most pressing issues of the day can only mean one of three things.
1) He is about to pull a rabbit out of the hat and stun his critics into silence.
2) He just doesn't care
3) He has no idea what to do and so will rather do nothing than make a misstep.

For the sake of us all I hope it's the first but I know where I'm putting my money.

BREAKING: Canadian held hostage by Islamists in Philippines has been killed

A Canadian man held captive by Islamist militants for months in the Philippines has been killed.

John Ridsdel, 68, was taken from a tourist resort along with three others by the Abu Sayyaf group in September last year.
Confirming the death, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called it "an act of coldblooded murder".

On Monday a severed head was found on a remote Philippine island, hours after an Abu Sayyaf ransom deadline expired.

The Philippine army has not confirmed if it belonged to one of the captives.
Mr Ridsdel was kidnapped from a marina near the city of Davao along with another Canadian, Robert Hall; a Norwegian, Kjartan Sekkingstad; and a Philippine woman, Mr Hall's girlfriend, Marites Flor.

They were taken 500km (300 miles) to the island of Jolo. Abu Sayyaf released a video of the group in November, demanding $80m (£55m) for their release.

Mr Ridsdel later warned that he was due to be killed if no ransom was paid.
Several hours after the deadline, a severed head was found in a street on Jolo. The Philippine authorities said it belonged to a foreign man but it has not yet been formally identified.

Vice-president Osinbajo says Nigeria lacks the capacity to generate 7000MW of electricity

Speaking at the International Association for Energy Economics, Annual International Conference 2016 in Abuja, Osinbajo who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant (Power and Privatisation), Chiedu Ugbo expressed his disappointment in the fact that despite Nigeria’s enormous natural gas reserves of over 185 trillion cubic feet, the country is still faced with huge energy supply problems.

He said: : “In fact, it is an irony, that we do not have sufficient gas to fire our power plants up to 7,000MW, yet in energy industry circles, Nigeria is described as more of a gas territory than an oil territory.”

According to him, Nigeria presently has
over 12,500MW of installed electricity generating capacity, consisting of gas thermal and hydropower plants and of that capacity, about 7,000MW is available to be generated if the required fuel is available.

He, however, disclosed that in spite of the available capacity, power plants in the country, over the last couple of weeks, distributed less than 4,000MW of electricity to consumers across the country.

Osinbajo blamed the development on inadequate investment on gas facilities, gas flaring, inadequate gas infrastructure and vandalism among others.

He said, “We have limited gas molecules to supply to the power plants. This is a result of many years of under-investment in gas gathering and processing for domestic consumption and also many years of gas flaring. Nigeria alone flares about half of the 40 billion cubic meters of associated gas estimated to be flared in Africa annually.

To address the situation, Osinbajo disclosed that the Federal Government is aware that there is no alternative to electric energy for energizing and powering Nigeria’s economic growth and development; hence it is determined to resolve the challenges to achieving sustainable energy supply in the country.

“We are working tirelessly towards resolving the gas-to-power challenge, ensuring that the needed investment will be made in gas gathering and processing for domestic consumption especially for power plants and at the same time working to ensure sustainability of supply of existing gas volumes,” he noted.

Traffic gridlocks set to be a thing of the past as Lagos moves to expand Ikeja-Alausa road

In a move to relieve pressure on the ever busy Lagos traffic, the state government has announced plans to upgrade the network of roads in Ikeja to improve and boost the economic stature of the seat of Government to world class standard and to reduce traffic gridlock around the corridor to the barest minimum, just as it revealed readiness to expand the Awolowo Way with an elevated highway from the Ikeja Airport Hotel to Alausa.

Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ganiyu Johnson said the elevated highway was designed to decongest the traffic gridlock along Allen Round-about, Kudirat Abiola Round-about and Agidingbi Road-about.

Highlighting the scorecard of the Ministry so far, Johnson said the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) worked on 540 roads from May 30, 2015 to April 5, 2016 out of which outright rehabilitation was carried out on 32 of the roads, while sectional patching and overlay was done on 509 roads, adding that 433 of the roads have been successfully completed.
